In 20 words or less, what is the best thing about being part of this department?
I LOVE to engage with content from a variety of fields of study and interact in critical discussions with my peers.

What is your advice to first years and sophomores about getting connected to this department?
Being away from home, I was in search for a department that would provide me with a healthy & supportive environment. Luckily, the CES department, the CES community, & Dr. G. welcomed me with open arms & critical love. Come get to know us! Don’t be afraid to lean on your community for help.

What is the most valuable thing you’ve learned at K?
The most valuable thing I’ve learned at K has been to feel okay asking for help. I’ve internalized a pressure to achieve “greatness” because my parents have achieved so much and gone against all odds for me to be where I am today. This led me to believe that by asking for help, I was in some way disappointing my parents or those who think highly of me. But that is not the case. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it.

What has been your favorite class at K? Why?
Two classes that definitely come to mind was my First-Year Seminar with Dr. Haus, Community, Migration, and Self, and Insurgency, Solidarity and Coloniality of Power with Dr. G! These two courses really influenced me to pursue a Jewish Studies concentration and double-major in Critical Ethnic Studies.

How have you taken advantage of the open curriculum or experienced breadth in your education?
I’ve been able to take courses outside my fields of interests that have exposed me to new frameworks and methodologies I would have never thought I’d come across or experience.

What experiential education opportunities have you participated in?
I’ve been a Peer Leader, Civic Engagement Scholar, Community Building Internship recipient, and I am excited to be a DSA & President Student Ambassador!

What is your SIP?
For my SIP, I intend to analyze the treatment of memory and the past in distinct literary and cultural texts about surviving racial injuries and trauma through the lens of trauma theory.

What are your career aspirations/next steps after K?
I will be applying to grad school & taking some time to rest/self-care/ & spend quality time with my family.
